The Role

We are seeking a Backend Technical Lead to join the Yale team in their mission. This role will include a broad spectrum of tasks from defining solutions/improvements, supporting colleagues, and hands-on coding. Since our product consists of both hardware products and mobile experience, there is very much a systems architecture component to this role. The work is done in a small multi-disciplinary technical team, along with project and product management. You will be responsible for evolving, updating, and maintaining the AWS based business logics, frameworks, APIs as well as databases powering the Yale Home experience including smart locks, alarm systems, and cameras.

Job duties include:

• Lead the backend development
• Have strong influence over technical choice, direction and strategy
• Design the solution with consideration to scalability, modularity, robustness, uptime and security
• Follow industry standard structures, principles, and processes
• Build and maintain subject matter expertise within our backend solutions
• Work with global colleagues
• Be hands-on with coding, prototyping etc.

Skills and Experience we are looking for:

• A degree slanted toward one or several relevant engineering disciplines
• Significant relevant work experience, most of the time spent on server-side development, design, and operations
• Track record of achieving targets and delivering growth
• Experience working with consumer electronics is valued highly
• General knowledge of all aspects of system engineering
• Hands-on experience and familiarity with the domain of alarm or IoT products, general and future trends, data analysis etc
• Senior in the sense of having experience, proven willingness, and ability to learn new, and transition to, new technologies
• Experience working with IoT security, and comfortable with authentication principles, encryption concepts, and cryptographical methods.
• NodeJS, Mongo, Redis, S3, and MQTT should be well known among others
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken
